Sunday 13th April 2025 turned out to be better weather-wise than expected from late morning onwards. I took the opportunity to visit the Great Central for a few hours. There was nothing exceptional expected but the mixed freight formation had been extended with several more vehicles giving a more realistic load for a main line train rather than the branch line pick-up goods style of recent times. Steam was provided by 6990 and 78019 with old faithful ‘IRIS’ providing the DMU and Mountsorrel service. I left earlier than usual as the 55 min wate for last passenger departure seemed excessive. A sad but significant statistic; in over four hours at the lineside I did not see another person photographing trains!
