There was an unexplained points failure at the crossing north of Quorn Station. It was eventually announced that the DMU would have to travel to Loughborough in order to cross from down to up lines and further delays arose when Loughborough insisted that the move could not begin until Platform 1 was free following the late departure of the 8F hauled 12:00 service. Platform 2 was occupied by empty carriage stock. The branch shuttle eventually reached Quorn about forty minutes late. I expected this would lead at least to a train cancellation later in the day. However the diesel crew apparently gave up their lunch break and I recorded the arrival of the 13:35 from Loughborough, only about 10 min late, entering the platform at Nunckley Hill. The Metro-Cammell set was formed as a power twin with DMCL M50321 facing north and DMBS E51427 at the south end. By the time we returned to Swithland the service was running early. Thanks are certainly due to the diesel crew.
