The weekend of 22nd & 23rd July 2023 was advertised by The Great Central Railway as The Quorn Wagon and Wagon Event. It was of particular interest to me as it was to feature Test Car 2, ABD975397, which was a replacement of former BR(ER) Dynamometer Car DE320041/DB999500. On Sunday 23rd July it was open for the public to view and on display in Quorn goods yard along with various wagons, vans, tanks and a very nicely restored BCK Mark 1 coach in blue/grey livery. The railway was running the normal summer timetable with one diesel and two steam locomotives in operation. In place of the DALEX, that operates frequently at weekends, a steam hauled train of covered vans was booked to make a round trip between Swithland and Loughborough along with necessary light engine moves. The weather forecast was quite good for the morning period then turning to rain sometime in the afternoon. I spent the morning photographing the trains on the double track section then visited Quorn in the afternoon when I could dodge any showers. Unfortunately, during the afternoon there was significant disruption to timetabled services because of a trespass incident involving youths carrying guns, assumed to be air rifles. The Police were called and all trains were stopped while they investigated. I understand no arrests were made at the time of the incident. When train running resumed, I was able to photograph a couple of the delayed services.
