Sunday 30th January 2022 turned out to be a very nice day to conclude the GCR Winter Steam Gala. The morning was almost continuous winter sunshine that was very pleasant and welcome but produced the inevitable long hard shadows. Trains ran as advertised and mostly at the right time. Only one black mark against the railway on what was otherwise a most enjoyable day out. More of that later depending on how long I decide to rumble on about it.

With three engines facing north, plus a tank engine in the line up, it was a good decision to spend the first couple of hours at the A6 bridge and benefit from the low morning light.
