On Sunday 17th September 2026 “The Shakespeare Express” ran between Worcester and Stratford-upon-Avon. As expected, the train was hauled by BR(WR) Castle Class 7P 4-6-0 5043 EARL OF MOUNT EDGCUMBE assisted, where required, by English Electric Type 3 Co-Co diesel electric 37 240. In a change from usual operation, the early afternoon trip from Stratford to Birmingham and return carried “The Shakespeare Pullman” headboard. It was a fine and sunny morning that clouded over around lunchtime and rain showers increased in the afternoon. I decided not to go beyond Earlswood as rain was, by then, much more likely.
