When the LMR needed to ensure reliable operation of a special train they frequently employed double headed Class 5 4-6-0s. This combination proved its worth on Sunday 27th November when they recovered over thirty minutes when running "The Welsh Marches Express" from Birmingham International to Cardiff Central.
