Long gone are the days when I would chase “The Great Britain” excursion from Cornwall into southern Scotland. In 2025 I attempted only one outing and that was on the penultimate day. The train was heading south from Newcastle to Peterborough, hauled by 60163 TORNADO and then on to Norwich with Black Five 45212. The Newcastle-Peterborough leg was not a simple dash up the ECML but was diverted through Church Fenton and then south of Doncaster through Gainsborough, Lincoln and Sleaford. I aimed for four shots; three of 60163 and one of 45212. As usual my planning went well until some truly awful roads between Ruskington and Whittlesea caused me to just miss my shot at 45212. Will I ever learn? I very much doubt it!
