A diesel hauled tour featuring D1015 WESTERN CHAMPION combined with a steam hauled “Shakespeare Express” looked like a great day out on Sunday 21st July 2024. Careful examination of times suggested I could manage three locations for the diesel and two or three with the steam; provided everything ran to time. I arrived at my first location, Marston Green, only to find that the ECS for “The Nosh and Slosh” was an hour late in the Gloucester area and it would be impossible for this train to run anywhere near booked time. In a hastily rearranged plan, I decided to photograph the steam excursion first, then return to watch the Western whenever it was able to leave Birmingham International. I abandoned my plan to see the Western in the Moreton-in-Marsh area.
