The absence of any information about motive power for the two runs to Carlisle and the awful weather forecast for the north-west caused me to cancel plans for a main-line day. The GC provided an alternative that turned out to be very enjoyable. The March timetable gives two extra steam hauled trains and the likelihood of some diesel locomotive turns as well.
