"The Cumbrian Express" first ran on 21st September 2017 as a joint Tyseley / Carnforth exercise with steam haulage both ways over the S & C. Perhaps at the organisation stage the route was uncertain and the terms Coast, Mountain, Fells, etc. were too much of a gamble. 45690 LEANDER performed well but running early on the outward journey, when the weather was reasonable, spoiled the day.
