Between north and southbound runs by Hastings style DEMU set 1001 on the Midland Main-line, I had the time to pay a brief visit to the GCR and photograph a few trains in the middle of the day. It also presented an opportunity to photograph visiting 1957 built English Electric Type 1 Bo-Bo locomotive D8001 that was visiting the railway and which I had not seen in service before. The steam locomotive that I photographed on this day was BR Standard Class 5MT 4-6-0 73156. It was a case of old against new as 73156 was among the last of its class and D8001 was a very early product of the 1955 Modernisation Plan.
