In the apparent absence of any sensible main-line steam and unrealistic times for a diesel tour I visited the GCR yet again. The weather forecast was quite good for Saturday and not so good for Sunday. By doing the GCR on Saturday it left Sunday available for The Shakespeare Express if conditions were judged appropriate. You will see from my gallery listing that, in the end, I considered it too bad to travel for very few photographs on Sunday. The GCR was running the usual peak period timetable with one diesel and two steam locomotives and extra trains were running between Quorn, Mountsorrel and Rothley. I concentrated on the main line services but stayed long enough to photograph the DMU when it made its final run from Mountsorrel to Loughborough via Rothley. It turned out that the green 2-car Metro-Cammell unit was employed but the blue set had been advertised on the company website. It was good to see this set that was ‘in period’ with the other rolling stock but why did they display MORECAMBE PROM in the destination blind?
