Saturday 13th July 2024 provided another opportunity to see and photograph the Hastings line special diesel electric multiple units on a visit to the Midlands away from their traditional locations in the south. In many ways these vehicles were pioneers and they deserve a special place in rail vehicle preservation. I remember seeing them in the 1960s and early ‘70s in the London area and later around Sevenoaks and Tonbridge. I was always impressed.
