The previous working week the GCR had started work to replace a pair of bridges either side of Quorn Station that required closure of both running lines between Loughborough and Swithland. This railway is justifiably proud of maintaining a service every weekend throughout the year wherever it is possible to do so. The bridge replacement is expected to take four weeks to complete and that would result in significant loss of income. A shuttle service has been introduced between Leicester North and Mountsorrel calling at Rothley and Nunckley Hill. The first weekend had a service of eight trains out and back that proved so popular it has been repeated for at least a second weekend. It was, in my experience, an excellent day out costing £13.00 for a day rover ticket including admission to the Heritage Centre. I cannot remember the last time I produced almost 120 photographs for the website. OK, you’ll be bored to death or at least reduced to tears if you attempt to look at them all in one session, but it’s my record of the most enjoyable day for ages that I’ve spent on the GCR.
