"The White Rose" excursion on Thursday 17th December 2015 was an operational disaster from before it even began. Originally intended as a London to York and return trip it was re-routed as a Cambridge-York tour. Departure, diesel hauled, was 48 minutes late and the steam hauled run from March eventually got under-way about 90 minutes late. Clearly from the running times the problems were nothing to do with the locomotive but pathing difficulties and unscheduled stops eventually had the train over two hours late. No doubt we shall hear the usual set of excuses from the industry, but it must have been a very poor experience for the unfortunate passengers.
