The weekend of 16th & !7th March 2024 was a celebration by the Great Central Heritage Railway of 125 years since the opening of the original route from Nottingham and Leicester to London Marylebone. It was in many ways a low key event using only home based motive power but working an enhanced timetable that involved freight as well as passenger trains. The weather from late morning onwards was generally good and with numerous trains passing it was wise to remain in one location and let it all pass by. Nothing outstanding but I hope it was a financial success. The only down spot was the failure, reason unknown, of 78018 and its replacement by diesel electric 37 714. That, to me, was a shame when class pioneer D6700 in original green livery was sitting in the shed area. The English Electric Type 3s worked many of the through services in the last few months of BR operation.
