This is not to be regarded as a photograph of a steam hauled train on the Great Central Railway. It is a photograph of a rather unusual and now unique Stanier tender. LMS No. 4648 was the penultimate member of a batch of fifty built in 1935 with a water capacity of 3500 Gallons and holding 7 tons of coal. They were coupled originally to Jubilees 5617 to 5666 inclusive with tender 4648 entering service with 5665 LORD RUTHERFORD OF NELSON. Unfortunately at the last overhaul of loco 48305 to which this tender has been attached in preservation, it was neccessary to replace the tender body with a new one of welded construction and the distinctive riveting that made it easy to identify from the much more common 4000 gallon version was lost.
