Saturday 11th August 2018 was the 50th Anniversary of the last steam service offered by British Railways, known as "The Fifteen Guinea Special" by enthusiasts. That train featured 70013 OLIVER CROMWELL and the only place to see that locomotive at work fifty years later was on the Great Central Railway. With four steam locomotives running trains and three of them presented as August 1968 survivors I thought the GCR presented a better experience than watching three other steam locomotives being pushed by diesels in the northern fells.
