Again, I had to abandon plans to travel to see some interesting trains further from home than the usual preserved railways. The weather forecast for the Welsh Highland Centenary and a first view of Baldwin 4-6-0 590 suggested a washout on Friday 23rd June and the times for Saturday’s trip with 7029 to Minehead and return were, for me, impossible. Saturday’s Northern Belle looked likely to be diesel hauled (and it was) so I once again visited the GCR for just a normal day. It was fine, mostly bright and very hot. The trains were handled by a balanced selection of three well-chosen locomotives all carrying appropriate, circa 1960, liveries. I had a very enjoyable day and managed to photograph every passenger departure from Loughborough. A sad feature to record was that I did not see or talk to another photographer all day. Gone are the days when you could expect a dozen or more down Kinchley Lane or by Woodthorpe bridge.
