I believe that the closest position on the former Midland Main-Line to home in Ashby-de-la-Zouch is the site of the former station at Hathern. With so many railtours either cancelled or with unannounced motive power due to the extreme hot, dry weather in recent weeks I judged a pair of Class 20 diesels on The Jolly Fisherman from Tyseley to Skegness and return was a pretty good bet for a couple of decent pictures without a great deal of effort. The day was almost perfect but very hot and bright and the train ran close to time on both visits to the line. There was unfortunately one of those incidents when priority was given to a permanent way maintenance set was given precedence over the railtour but that sort of thing it seems will always occur.
