The weekend of October 16-17 2021 was never intended to be about Railway Photography. We were in Manchester for two days of Speedway as Team Great Britain were competing against six other national teams in the Speedway of Nations competition. However, when I discovered our visit coincided with the ELR Gala I had to seize the opportunity to photograph the ex-L&Y 0-6-0ST that has been restored to service on the ELR. I got up early on an awful wet dull morning just to see this one locomotive on its first working of the day. These were special engines to me as they were the regular yard shunting locomotives at Sowerby Bridge and Halifax when I was a boy in the 1950s. Shame about the light but I was delighted to see the engine at work. Oh, and against all the odds, Team Great Britain won the Speedway!
