Saturday 29th February 2020 had three main-line steam hauled excursions; all in the north-west. But it was going to be very difficult to see them all. Additional factors involved an early MOT Test for my car, where failure would mean staying at home, and, finding that ALBERTA was scheduled for "The Cotton Mill Express", the inevitable late start made the Lancashire and Yorkshire area more appropriate than Shap and the S & C. The grand plan involved up to eight locations: Diggle, Brighouse, Sowerby Bridge, Copy Pit, Hoghton, Kearsley, Marsden and Summit Tunnel. A very ambitious programme that was ultimately impossible due mainly to combinations of weather, traffic and floods. Poor time keeping with rearranged water stops did not help either. However it was a great day out that provoked many memories both of childhood and the end of BR steam.
