The 2025 Battlefield Line Winter Warmer Gala was a much larger event than previous years with four locomotives in steam. The timetable proved over ambitious with cumulative late running leading to cancellation of at least one train. The weather on Saturday 11th January was very poor, icy cold with heavy mist/fog, so I only called at Market Bosworth for a few minutes to determine which direction the locomotives were facing. Sunday 12th was much better, warmer and dry, but we hardly saw any of the sun that had been forecast. Judging by the attendance it must have been successful for the railway; but you can hardly fail to attract crowds with three interesting Great Western locomotives in action. It would be very good to see some of that revenue spent improving the facilities and infrastructure. Market Bosworth needs a signalled passing loop and everywhere there is junk that has lain unused for many years. It’s a shame because in some respects this line has a lot to offer both enthusiasts and the general public.
