The weekend of February 28th to 1st March 2026 saw the transition to meteorological spring celebrated by a mini-gala event on Leicestershire’s Great Central Railway. For several days before, Saturday 28th was forecast to be the better of the two days and so I made that the day to visit. Wrong again David; Sunday was almost wall to wall sunshine. The weather was not the only disappointment on Saturday, as a locomotive failure, late running and cancelled trains compounded with a late start, floods and heavy showers to detract. Enough moaning, I had a good day out and the railway did their best in the circumstances.
