"The Great Britain XI" in 2018 was as unpredictable as in previous years with locomotive changes due to non-availablility and also changes to the itinerary. I decided not to see the train on the first two days as I expected, correctly as the days unfolded, that there would be that combination of early and late running with unscheduled route changes that makes lineside photography a nightmare. Surely Day 7 which involved a trip up the mainline from Grange to Crewe followed by an easily timed run along the Central Wales Line and a dash on the Great Western Line to Cardiff couldn't throw up too many issues. How wrong could I be? An unannounced locomotive change, major signalling failure leading to over two hour delay and running so far out of path that the later part of the journey was so unpredictable that it simply was not worth spending time hoping to see the train. You can tell that I really enjoyed my day! Let the pictures tell the story.
