The morning of Sunday 17th October 2021 dawned extremely dull and very wet. It was not the type of wet caused by heavy rain but that all pervading wet arising from heavy drizzle that penetrates everywhere, particularly camera bags! I was determined to take my first photographs of the ex-L&Y Class 23 0-6-0ST since it was restored to service at the East Lancs Railway. On arrival at Brooksbottom viaduct I was not surprised to find that I was alone. Wind down the shutter speed, open the aperture and boost the ISO as much as I dare and this photograph shows there was just about enough light.
