On Saturday 11th December 2021 I headed south in the hope of seeing three main line steam hauled excursions. Success depended on all three running close to booked time and no serious delays due to traffic problems on the road. My first locations were in Banbury where I was able to see "The Merchant Venturer" running south behind 7029 from Solihull to Bristol and then 44871 with "The Birmingham and Shrewsbury Express" working north a few minutes later. The aim was then to head south to see 7029 before Didcot and then continue to West and South London to see 35028 with "The Belmond British Pullman". I saw and photographed all three trains, covered no less than six locations and was still home in time for tea; albeit a little late!
