On Sunday 29th May 2022 I again visited the Great Central Railway hoping that my recent experiences of late running would not recur. Sadly I was to be disappointed again with a timetable that was disrupted throughout the day; most likely due to the very late departure of the first train, the 09:20 up from Loughborough, which had consequences for all subsequent Loughborough departures including the 16:15! It seems that there are four issues that the Railway Management should address. Firstly that first train must leave Loughborough on time, secondly the practice of not cutting the run-round time at Leicester North should be reviewed, thirdly the paths for the DALEX operations should be questioned and finally the locomotives should carry full loads of coal and water and be rostered to avoid the need to take on additional supplies during the day. The captions to the photographs will explain how the delays developed. The solution isn’t rocket science; just simple common sense.
