It is difficult to recall now just how the decision was made to visit and travel on the Ffestiniog Railway on Thursday 21st September 2023 was made. It had been our intention all along to return home on this day via the Tal-y-llyn Railway. However, the early morning weather forecasts for Dolgellau, Aberdyfi and Machynlleth were most discouraging. It seemed more sensible to use our free membership travel on the FR and have the benefit of a simpler journey home later in the day. With hindsight, we made the correct decision and had an easy relaxing day that was marred only by poor running with wet rail by BLANCHE which was slipping much of the way from Boston Lodge to Tan-y-Bwlch with the late afternoon train from Porthmadog to Blaenau Ffestiniog.
