Over three days in late January 2023 the Great Central Railway put on an exceptional show at their Winter Steam Gala. I cannot recall seeing as many people at Quorn as greeted me when I arrived just in time to photograph the first passenger service on Friday 27th January 2023. There were two superb guest steam locomotives joining three home based engines for service that day and, from what I could tell, all performed exceptionally well. There were operational problems at Loughborough later on the Friday and throughout Saturday about which we shall no doubt hear nothing as the railway’s management no doubt enters self-congratulation mode once more. For once I think it best to say no more. In all the circumstances of the of recent years, this was a superb and very enjoyable three day event.
