The GCR Autumn Steam Gala began on Thursday 5th October 2017. It was both enjoyable and disappointing in about equal measure. The line-side banter was very good and the weather basically OK but the non-availability of one guest locomotive and hot bearing problems followed by brake issues with another completely destroyed the programme. I am sorry for those that had travelled considerable distance only to be let down.
