My visit to the GCR on Sunday 5th December 2021 was originally intended to fill in time between main line photography and investigate how the GCR was operating the seasons "Santa Express" trains. I called at Quorn just in time to see the train leave as ECS for Loughborough. Useful information in itself confirming the cleaning and sanitizing routine was in operation. There was steam, facing south, on the south end but I could not tell what was on the north end. After photographing the main line train near Syston I returned to the GCR to confirm that the usual dining car train was running and decided to spend the rest of the afternoon at Woodthorpe. The story continues to unfold in the photograph captions.
