The GCR autumn Steam Gala was, as usual, a four day event running from Thursday through to Sunday. For 2024 there was only one visiting steam locomotive; BR(WR) 78XX Class 4-6-0 7828 ODNEY MANOR. In recent years, while free from the burden of work, I prefer to visit the railway on Thursday and Friday. Without lineside access there are very few locations for photography and weekdays are less busy than weekends. Furthermore, the weather forecast was much better for 3rd and 4th October than for 5th and 6th 2024; although we enjoyed better weather at the weekend than originally forecast. In the end almost every train ran very close to right time with the rostered motive power during my visit and the event was very enjoyable.
