The Cumbrian Mountain Express on Saturday 4th September 2021 turned out to be my first opportunity to see 45699 GALATEA running as SIERRA LEONE. I thought I had waited long enough for the transformation to be complete but I was very disappointed to find that it still carried the number 45562 on the cab sides and a 55A shed plate. Expert opinion from Carnforth informed me that they simply had not had enough time to apply the new numbers and seemed unaware that 45627 was never allocated to Leeds Holbeck. Apparently Mr. Smith had agreed to the make-over at the request of former NRM Head, Steve Davies. I had to rearrange hastily my photographic locations to minimise the number of views showing the cab sides. Detail apart the locomotive performed very well considering that it was very over-loaded for an unassisted Class 6P engine.
