Saturday 19th August 2023 was the first day of the Great Central’s Railways at work event. Why plural? There’s only one railway here! I was rather slow getting going but had some business to transact at Quorn and wanted to see 6988 SWITHLAND HALL as soon as possible. The timetable revealed frenzied activity early in the day and I thought that was better avoided. I headed first to Rushey Lane and photographed almost everything passing through before retiring for lunch. In the afternoon I visited Old Woodthorpe Bridge as usual before heading to Quorn. Quorn yard was much quieter by the time I arrived and I had plenty of time to photograph the various road vehicles in proper railway surroundings. It had been a most enjoyable day but I was not too disappointed that I could not return for a second dose on Sunday due to a last-minute organised family event. I should have preferred “The Shakespeare Express” anyway.
