After Kearsley was passed half an hour late I judged it too risky to head for Marsden using the A62 as they would surely attempt to recover lost time. I thought that Sowerby Bridge would be a safe alternative. I arrived in good time, ahead of the schedule and looked for a suitable location. I found this position in a Tesco Supermarket car-park on the site of the old goods yard opposite where the engine shed had stood just east of the tunnel. I thought of my old Grandad shovelling all that coal into the passing freight locomotive tenders. It wasted time, and therefore increased pay, compared to using a mechanical plant such as those at Mirfield, Wakefield and Low Moor. Before long I saw steam in the vicinity of Norland cutting then nothing; they had to be taking water near the station. It was getting much darker when a sustained whistle indicated departure and 45562 ALBERTA made a good job pulling "The Cotton Mill Express" away from Sowerby Bridge on Saturday 29th February 2020.
