I returned to the GCR on Sunday 25th January 2026 for a second look at the line with a much more intensive timetable in operation. Conditions were very similar to my earlier visit on Thursday 22nd January. A delayed start due to persistent rain and a very strong easterly wind that caused drifting exhaust to make photography from the west side virtually impossible. I had to choose locations carefully but the A6 bridge, south of Loughborough, and the east side of Rushey Lane bridge were satisfactory from the exhaust point of view if not for the background. The timetable was best described as hectic; never long between trains and sometimes two together in opposite directions on the double track. Enjoyable, cold but effectively dry must rank as a success in January.
