I approached Chesterfield in very bright sunshine with a black cloud hanging over the town and heavy rain falling. As I reached the Tapton bye-pass bridge I could see the cloud beginning to thin but would it stop raining in time? It was still raining hard when the column of steam indicated departure from the station and a rumble on the track from behind meant the trains would cross in front of the camera. I set the camera on shutter priority, autofocus and hoped for the best. You can see how it unfolded in subsequent photographs.
