The 7th November 2021 was the first Sunday when the GCR were operating their new late autumn timetable. The main service involves a DMU and a steam hauled set both of which do three return trips between Loughborough and Leicester North. A steam hauled Diner is also included. I skipped the first DMU run and arrived in time to see the Hall depart Loughborough with the 11:15 up. Little did I expect it would be about one o'clock before it reached Rothley? The reason I understand was a bridge strike at Swithland that closed the line completely between Quorn and Rothley to allow for a thorough engineering inspection to be carried out. The 12:00 DMU and the 12:50 Steam had to be cancelled but the service was close to timetable from 13:00 to the end of the day. In the circumstances the Railway did exceptionally well. It's when the chips are down that the GCR so often excels!
