Close examination of the magnificent nameplate carried by Castle Class 4-6-0 5043 EARL OF MOUNT EDGCUMBE revealed the radius of curvature to be different to that of the wheel splasher. The name was originally carried by a 5’ 8” wheeled 4-4-0. Apparently, their Lordships were unimpressed by the rather antiquated appearance of the smaller locomotives!
