LNER A4 Class 4-6-2 4498 SIR NIGEL GRESLEY had spent the previous few weeks running-in on the Severn Valley Railway. Tuesday 17th May 2022 was the date for its Main Line test run which was, as usual for Crewe based locomotives, on the Crewe, Chester, Wrexham, Shrewsbury, Wolverhampton, Stafford and Crewe circuit. As is frequently the case with test runs the train often does not keep to the working timetable on this was the case with this run that involved some very early running that made photography difficult. Nevertheless all seemed well with the locomotive but I would question the quality of the coal for the main-line passenger debut on Saturday 21st May.
