Saturday 5th August 2023 was a total washout of a day so I was determined to take my chances with a weather forecast for occasional heavy showers and sunny intervals in the Birmingham area on Sunday 6th August 2023. The Shakespeare Express was running with one of the Tyseley based Castles. I don’t mind not knowing which as they are both appropriate for the job unlike many of the offerings from the Smith and Hoskin concerns. The locomotive proved to be 5043 EARL OF MOUNT EDGUMBE which performed well, as expected, and I managed to choose locations that avoided the heavy showers, just!
