Very soon after 1D09 had passed on Saturday 12th February 2022 the points changed, the down loop starting signal cleared and 1Z80, the 07:23 from Kings Cross to York pulled away. It was not the clean start for which the locomotive had been prepared but, with cylinder drains fully open, the entire front of the train disappeared in clouds of white steam. I had no alternative but to turn around and hope to get some sort of going away shot. This first view of just the locomotive shows how impressive 6233 DUCHESS OF SUTHERLAND looks in close-up. Thank goodness for autofocus.
