As seen here pairs of Class 20s, coupled nose to nose, were a very common sight in the East and West Midlands following the demise of steam traction. They were used mostly on freight, usually coal, trains where the combination of 2000 engine HP and power brakes on eight pairs of wheels offered grate advantage over single units.
