Sunday 2nd January 2022 dawned bright and sunny but with increasing chances of rain as the day progressed. The GCR was operating its current winter timetable except that the normally steam hauled trains were to be replaced with Deltic diesel haulage in commemoration of forty years since these iconic locomotives were withdrawn from Anglo-Scottish passenger train workings.
