While packing away my equipment at Yealand Redmayne a Class 88 electro-diesel ran north with a train of mostly empty container flats. When I arrived at the bridge where the B5305 road crosses the WCML I realised that the steam special had passed a couple of minutes previously. I decided to wait for the Class 88 which I learned from realtimetrains.co.uk was waiting for passenger traffic to pass in Penrith. The first train north was 1S48, the 09:30 London Euston to Glasgow Central, formed from 9-car Pendolino unit 390 010 on Saturday 29th January 2022.
