How can it be that a railway as apparently successful as the Great Central can, from time to time, make operational decisions that are completely against the interest of the travelling public? On Sunday 28th April 2019 everything was running well with an expanded timetable including four trains on the Mountsorrel branch. Then, without warning, the Loughborough up advanced starter cleared and after a seemingly prolonged delay a train consisting of Type 1 Bo-Bo D8098, a single non-corridor Mk1 coach and shunter D4137 crawled towards Quorn causing cumulative delays to the final three passenger departures. And the reason would appear to be relocation of D8098 to Quorn yard for the convenience of the Mechanical Engineers. To have run this works train in the gap between the 15:30 and 16:15 services could have avoided all passenger delays!
