“The Merchant Venturer” on Tuesday 6th December 2022 was hauled by BR(WR) double chimney Castle Class 7P 4-6-0 7029 CLUN CASTLE from Solihull to Bristol Temple Meads and return. I was undecided until the last minute whether to venture out or not as the departure required a very early rise and the combination of 25 kV electrification after Didcot and early sunset meant that there was only the outward stretch between Solihull to Appleford that would generate acceptable photographs. It was really the need to purchase more printer paper for the 2022 Christmas Cards that tempted me to make the trip. Traffic from home to the M40 was awful and I had no chance of a photograph until the train approached Banbury. But I suppose three successful locations in a short space of time counts as a satisfactory trip. One thing it proved beyond any doubt was that I desperately need image processing software that I can work with to achieve acceptable quality.
