August Bank Holiday Monday, 29th August 2022, had a special timetable on the GCR with one Diesel and two Steam locomotives operating a 45 minute interval timetable from ten o’clock. The advertised steam locomotives were Stanier Class 8F 48305 and Standard Class 2MT 78018. The diesel was unannounced but news that the Birmingham RC&W Type 3 had completed some tests successfully encouraged me to hope that that might be given the opportunity to stretch its legs with a train. With the two Steam locomotives facing in opposite directions it was important to see the first departure because that determined where I should go for the rest of the day. Unfortunately it was cloudy most of the day but there were only a couple of very light showers that had no effect on photography.
